Storage Policy Based Management
Storage policies in vSphere are a collection of rules used to specify storage requirements for virtual machines (VM). Storage policy-based management (SPBM) helps administrators choose policy-compliant storage for VMs based on the application requirements.
The virtual disk (vDisk) properties defined in templates can be used to define VM storage policies in the vCenter. After creating a new datastore, the administrator can create a storage policy based on the vDisk template that matches the datastore.
DataCore VASA Provider has introduced DataCore.SANsymphonyV2 rules in the Create VM Storage Policy wizard.
Virtual Machine Storage Policy Rules
Two rules are possible based on the VM storage policies. These rules appear in the new “Placement” tab that is accessible from Create VM Storage Policy > DataCore.SANsymphonyV2 rules > Placement in the vCenter:
- Volume Storage profiles (Critical, High, Normal, Low, and Archive)
-
Disk type (Single, Mirrored, or Dual)
- Dual disks require a qualified shared pool in DataCore SANsymphony that is configured as the storage container pool.
- Storage compatibility will be checked based on the selected "Disk Type" only.
