Getting Started with DataCore SANsymphony
Use this topic to quickly configure and take advantage of the enhanced storage services in the DataCore SANsymphony Software-defined Storage Platform. This topic is an enhancement to the instructions for the Getting Started page in the DataCore Management Console (DMC).
In the Getting Started page, as you complete the configuration activity, a green check mark appears to the left of the link.
Follow the steps in order and click the links for additional information and instructions.
Some steps in the Getting Started may have been previously performed by the automated installation wizard (DataCore Deployment Wizard) during software installation, in which case skip those steps. Those steps depend on the template selected during installation.
Step | Procedure |
---|---|
1 |
This step is for informational purposes in order to gain a basic understanding of the software and console. Review the following topic for basic features in the DataCore SANsymphony Software-defined Storage Platform: Review the following topics about user interfaces: |
2 |
This step is required. Users must be registered in order to gain access to the software. Add DataCore SANsymphony users and assign the privilege level: |
3 |
This step may have been performed in the automated installation and upgrade wizard depending on the deployment scenario selected. Grouping servers in a server group should be performed before other configuration steps. After the DataCore Servers are "grouped," the following steps and any configuration changes can be performed from any server. Also see Connecting to a Server Group for additional information. |
4 |
If there is a license to activate, activate it now: Also, refer to this topic for important information about 30-day trial licenses and evaluation licenses with an expiration date. |
5 |
Port roles may have been assigned in the automated installation and upgrade wizard depending on the deployment scenario selected, but reviewing the topics in this step are recommended for additional information. Assign or customize server port roles to ensure proper use: Assigning Port Roles and Groups Before assigning roles, see Port Connections and Paths to understand port roles and additional important port features. |
6 |
This step may have been performed in the automated installation and upgrade wizard depending on the deployment scenario selected. If using iSCSI network connections, ensure that initiators on DataCore Servers have discovered targets and are logged in. Authentication and iSNS can be configured: |
7 |
For each host requiring storage resources, define the host and assign host ports: |
8 |
For each server within a server group, it is essential to create a server locality or assign an existing server locality: |
9 |
A disk pool may have been created on each server in the automated installation and upgrade wizard depending on the deployment scenario selected, but reviewing the topics in this step are recommended for additional information. Create disk pools to use as the storage sources of virtual disks and add physical disks to the pools: Also see Disk Pools for information about pools and pool features. |
10 |
Create virtual disks to be served to hosts as storage resources: Before creating virtual disks, see Virtual Disks for basic information. |
11 |
Serve virtual disks to hosts, where they will be discovered as physical disks: |
