Inline Deduplication and Compression

DataCore Inline Deduplication and Compression provides several unique advantages for capacity optimization. By using one set of deduplication resources for all disk pools and corresponding virtual disks on a server, shared storage can be extended among the greatest number of sources. This provides tremendous flexibility in terms of deployment and use, while also maximizing the storage savings.

Inline Deduplication and Compression can be configured by either optimizing all data or optimizing stale data only. The Optimize All Data option optimizes and migrates all the virtual disk data to the Capacity Optimized subsystem. Whereas the Optimize Stale Data Only option (also referred to as Adaptive Data Placement) optimizes and migrates the stale data of the virtual disk to the Capacity Optimized subsystem. While using Inline Deduplication and Compression, it is vital to monitor the remaining Capacity Optimization space that is available per server. DataCore SANsymphony monitors the free space remaining on the capacity-optimized disk pool and will migrate storage as necessary when the remaining free space reaches a critical level. DataCore Inline Deduplication and Compression is only supported on Windows Server 2016 and later.

Encryption and Capacity Optimization

Capacity Optimized (CO )virtual disks, including those with Adaptive Data Placement, can now be optionally enabled with encryption using the AES-256-GCM encryption support provided by the ZFS framework, without compromising Capacity Optimization. The key, required to access the encrypted and CO data, gets preserved like a regular encrypted key. For more information, see Encryption and Capacity Optimization.
