Host Details, Ports, and Status

Overview

This section provides comprehensive information about registered hosts, their associated ports, and the connection status. You can view and manage details for individual hosts and host ports, as well as monitor their performance, events, and operational states. The information is organized into accessible tabs within the DataCore Management Console for efficient navigation and administration.

Host Details and List

Information about each host is collected and displayed in the Host Details page. A complete summary of host information is collected and displayed in the Hosts list.

Each host has a details page with information that is specific to the host.

The details page displays the following information at the top of the page:

To open the details page for a host:

  1. In the Hosts panel, click the host name to open the details page.
  2. Information is organized under tabs (described below). Click on a tab to view the information. Additional fields in the list may be available by selecting the Column Chooser from the column header context menu in tabs.

When the Host Details page is active, the Host Actions tab appears in the Ribbon to perform actions on the host.

Virtual Disks tab

Lists all virtual disks that have been served to the host and associated information. Virtual disk information matches the information displayed in the Virtual Disks list. See Virtual Disks list for descriptions.

Right-click a virtual disk in the list and a context menu appears to perform actions on the virtual disk.

A link is provided to serve virtual disks to the host, see Serving Virtual Disks and Multipath Support.

Ports tab

Lists all ports assigned to the host and general information: name, alias, status, mode, and type.

Right-click a port in the list and a context menu appears to perform actions on the port.

Performance tab

Displays real-time performance counter measurements for the host initiator ports including read/write and operation information. See Live Performance.

Events tab

Lists events for the selected host. Click an event in the list to view details in the Message Text area at the bottom of the tab. See Event Log and Alerts.

Hosts list

The Hosts list provides basic information for every registered host in one list.

To open the Hosts list:

  1. In the Ribbon>Home tab, click Hosts to open the Hosts list.
  2. In the list, right-click a host to perform actions from the context menu.

Name/Description

Host alias name and description

State

Possible states include:

  • On-line
  • Off-line
  • Not Present
  • Connected

Type

Operating system type.

Multipath

Used to enable multipathing support, as well as ALUA support for the host. See Multipath Support for Hosts.

Host Port Details

Information about each host port is collected and displayed in a Host Port Details page. (Basic information for all ports assigned to a specific host can be viewed on the Ports tab on the Host Details and List.)

The details page displays the following information at the top of the page:

  • The current state of the port is provided under the icon.

    Possible states include Connected and Not Connected. Not connected is displayed when no ports are assigned or ports are disconnected.

  • Port name and description can be changed by clicking Edit. When changes are made, click Done.

To open the details page for a host port:

  1. In the Hosts panel, click the host name.

    Alternatively, right-click the host port and select View Details

  2. Information is organized under tabs (see following table). Click on a tab to view the information. Additional fields may be available by selecting Column Chooser from the column header context menu in the tabs.

When the Host Port Details page is active, the Host Port Actions tab appears in the Ribbon to perform actions on the port.

Remote Ports tab

Lists all ports seen by the selected port.

Fibre Channel - Information for the listed ports including node name, machine (the name of the computer that has the port), session status, SCSI mode, port ID, and loop ID.

iSCSI - Information for the listed ports including node name, machine (the name of the computer that has the port), SCSI mode, session state, and IP address.
Virtual Disks tab

Lists all virtual disks using the port and associated information. Virtual disk information matches the information displayed in the Virtual Disks list. See Virtual Disks list for descriptions.

Right-click a virtual disk in the list and a context menu appears to perform actions on the virtual disk.
Performance tab

Displays real-time performance counter measurements specific to the port. See Live Performance.
Events tab

Lists events for the selected host port. Click an event in the list to view details in the Message Text area at the bottom of the tab. See Event Log and Alerts.

Host States

The connection state of the host is displayed in the detail page of the host under the icon.

Possible states:

  • Connected: At least one of the host ports is connected.
  • Not connected: The host ports are all not connected.
  • Unknown: No ports have been assigned to the host so there is no knowledge of the state.
