Overview
This section explains how software licensing and product key activation work in the DataCore SANsymphony environment. It provides an overview of license types, activation behavior, and key rules that affect how licenses are applied across server groups and individual servers.
Licensing and Product Keys
This section provides a summary of licensing concepts and how product keys function within the SANsymphony environment. Product keys represent licenses verifying authorized use of the software. This guide explains the types of licenses, activation processes, base and capacity license rules, and server-specific license behaviors.
Product keys are a representation of a license that verify the authenticity and licensed use of this software. Some product keys are activated for all DataCore Servers in the server group and some product keys are activated individually for each DataCore Server. For details on the different types available, see DataCore SANsymphony Licensing Options.
Multiple product keys can be activated at a time. Product keys will be provided and should be activated:
- When the software license is purchased
- When new licensed options are added
- When licensed storage capacity is increased
Refer to Activating the License to activate new licenses or activate new license capacity or features.
Viewing License Capacity and Features
Current licensing capacity and features for a server group and individual DataCore Servers can be viewed in the Server Group Details page > License tab.
To purchase a software license, additional storage capacity or node support, or licensed software features or products, contact DataCore Software or your DataCore Solution Provider.
License Rules and Behavioral Considerations
- EN, ST, and BZ base licenses are no longer required from SANsymphony 10.0 PSP16 onwards.
- No additional changes are required for configurations that already have base keys.
- VL and HS base licenses are still required.
- Capacity keys can only be split among different server groups if they are of EN type. Capacity keys of ST type cannot be split.
- A server that is added to a group will lose all previous license activations it may have had before being added. These licenses will need to be reactivated again after it has been added to the new group.
- After restoring a DataCore Server using a previously saved configuration, all licenses in the configuration for that server will not be active and the server will be set to Trial mode. A new activation is required, without re-entering the licenses, to restore licensed functionality.
