Creating Virtual Volume Datastores
To create a virtual volume datastore:
- In the vSphere GUI, from the Create Datastore wizard, select virtual volume (vVol) as the datastore type. In the container selection in the wizard, all the eligible virtual disk (vDisk) templates created in DataCore SANsymphony are displayed in the list of storage containers.
- Select a vDisk template that defines a compatible storage container for the datastore.
A single vVol datastore can be created from a storage container.
- Select the ESXi hosts which should have access to the datastore. The selected ESXi hosts are automatically registered in DataCore SANsymphony if they do not already exist.
- The corresponding protocol endpoint (PE) vDisks in DataCore SANsymphony are served to the selected hosts, either when the datastore is created or after by manually mounting the datastore. (vVol is not available to ESXi hosts until the virtual machine is powered on.)
