Server Group Details

Information about the server group is collected and displayed in the Task Details page. (See Replication Group and Partner Server Details for replication server group details.)

At the top of the page:

  • The state of the server group is displayed under the server group icon.
  • The server group name, description, and default server locality are displayed. These can be changed by clicking Edit. When changes are made click Done.

Default Server Locality is set to the server group by default. See Server Locality for more details.

To open the Task Details page:

  1. In the DataCore Servers panel, click the server group to open the details page.
  2. Information is organized under tabs (described below). Click the tab to view the information.

When the Task Details page is active, the Server Group Actions tab appears in the Ribbon to perform actions on the server group.

Server Group Details Tabs

Settings tab

DataCore Servers tab

Lists general information about the DataCore Servers belonging to the group: name, state, cache size, operating system version, DataCore SANsymphony software version, build (DataCore's internal use number to identify files used in the software product), and support state.

Right-click on a server in the list and a context menu appears to perform actions on the server.

License tab

The License tab displays all licensed options and capacity allowances for the server group and individual DataCore Server in the group.

  • Storage capacity limits and amounts are displayed per group or per server depending on the software installed on the server. Descriptions are indicated below.
  • Most options are either Licensed or Not Licensed; notes are included for options with other values.
  • From SANsymphony 10.0 PSP16 onwards, base licenses are no longer required for EN, ST, and BZ capacity licenses. They are optional.
  • Base licenses are still supported, and no changes are required for the existing license configurations.

Server Group Options

These are options licensed per server group. Storage capacity limits and amounts displayed are per server group.

License type:

  • Trial license - One or more of the servers in the group are using either the 30-day license or an Evaluation license key. The expiration date is displayed for each server.
  • Regular license - One or more of the servers in the group are using either a Permanent or Migration license key. The expiration date for a Migration license is displayed for each server.
  • Not-for-resale - One or more of the servers in the group are using a Not For Resale (NFR) license key. The expiration date for a NFR license is displayed for each server.

For license expiration date information, see Server Options below.

Servers per group display the maximum number of activated servers allowed in the server group. Servers that have a license status of "Not activated" (for example, servers running 30-day trial licenses) do not count against this limit until license keys are activated. See Server Options below.

Capacity expansion limit is the maximum amount of storage that can be licensed for the server group at the current license level.

Current managed capacity is the current total amount of storage that is being managed by DataCore SANsymphony software for the server group. The percentage used of the capacity expansion limit amount is displayed in a bar graph.

  • Applicable to this amount are:
    • Total capacity of physical disks added to disk pools. Physical disks used as pool mirrors are not counted unless the mirror is larger than the pool disk; in which case, the difference between the pool disk and mirror is counted toward this amount.
    • Total capacity of pass-through virtual disks created from physical disks.
    • Total capacity of DataCore disks added to disk pools, used as pass-through virtual disks, or served directly from DataCore Servers and used as back-end storage.
  • Not applicable to this amount are:
    • Managed capacity amounts for Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) nodes; the amount is displayed for each server.
    • For more information, see Server Options below.

Capacity license activated is the amount of licensed storage activated for the server group.

Capacity license in use is the current amount of storage that is being managed by DataCore SANsymphony software for the server group. The percentage used of the capacity license activated amount is displayed in a bar graph.

  • Not applicable to this amount are:
    • Total capacity of DataCore disks added to disk pools, used as pass-through virtual disks, or served directly from DataCore Servers and used as back-end storage.
    • Storage amounts being managed per server on HCI nodes; the amount is displayed for each server.

Replication sites are the number of remote server group sites that the local server group can partner with.

Server Options

These are options licensed per server. Storage capacity limits and amounts displayed are per server. The options and storage capacity displayed depend on the software installed.

License expiration:

  • Permanent license
  • DD/MM/YYYY (X Days remaining) means that the server is either:
    • Using a 30-day Trial license. The expiration date on the trial cannot be extended.
    • One or more of the license keys have been set deliberately to expire (for example with an Evaluation or NFR license keys). In this case, the expiration date can be extended if required; contact your DataCore Solution Provider for assistance.
    • Expired - one or more licenses assigned to this server have expired. Contact DataCore Technical Support for assistance.
    • Unknown - The server is currently offline and the license expiration status cannot be determined.
  • License status:
    • Activated - the server has one or more license keys assigned to it. This includes all Permanent, NFR, Evaluation, or Migration license keys.
    • Not activated - the server has no license keys assigned to it and is using a 30-day Trial license.
    • License limits exceeded - the configuration exceeds one or more of its licensed features for this server. Contact DataCore Technical Support for assistance.
  • Maximum retention time is the maximum amount of Continuous Data Protection (CDP) retention time licensed for this server.
  • Capacity license activated is the amount of licensed storage activated for the individual server.

Capacity license in use is the current amount of storage that is being managed by DataCore SANsymphony software for the individual server.

  • Not applicable to this amount is:
    • Total capacity of DataCore disks added to disk pools, used as pass-through virtual disks, or served directly from DataCore Servers and used as back-end storage.

Maximum hosts are the maximum number of hosts (DataCore Servers not included) that can be served virtual disks from that server. This option will not be listed if the number is unlimited.

Max replication groups are the total number of servers that can be replicated to or from.

License and new product keys can be activated in this page. See Activating the License for more details.

Performance tab

Displays real-time performance counter measurements for the server group operations. See Live Performance for more details.

Events tab

Lists events for the selected server group. Click an event in the list to view details in the Message Text area at the bottom of the tab. See Event Log and Alerts for more details.
