In this topic:
Fibre Channel (FC) and iSCSI port states for DataCore Servers and hosts, as well as path connection states are displayed in the DataCore Management Console.
The Fibre Channel port state is displayed:
· Under the icon at the top of the Fibre Channel Port Details page
· In the Ports tab (Status column) of details pages
Possible port states:
· Loop/Link up - The communication link is up.
· Loop/Link down - The communication link is down.
· Present (loopback) - The loopback is detected.
· Not present - The port is not detected.
· Connected (loopback) - The loopback is active.
· Not connected (loopback) - The loopback in inactive until connected.
· Loop Initialization - Port is being initialized.
· Login in Progress
· Port Not Started - This state occurs on a port that is assigned the FE role only and the software is stopped. This is expected behavior. If this state occurs under any other condition, contact DataCore Technical Support.
· Port shut off
· Non-Participating
· Internal Error Recovery
The Fibre Channel connection state is displayed in the Fibre Channel Port Details page>Remote Ports tab (State column).
Possible connection states:
· Logged In - Connection is active and logged in.
· Logged Out - Connection is inactive until it is logged in.
· Not present - The port is not detected.
The iSCSI port state is displayed:
· Under the icon at the top of the iSCSI Port Details page
· In the Ports tab (Status column) of details pages
Possible port states:
· Connected - The port is connected and able to communicate/transfer data.
· Link down - The communications link is down.
· Link up - The communications link is up.
· Not connected - The port is detected, but unable to communicate/transfer data until it is connected.
· Not present - The port is not detected.
· Not started - The server is stopped.
· Ready
The iSCSI session state is displayed in the iSCSI Initiator Details page>Remote Ports tab (State column).
Possible session states:
· Logged in - Connection is active and logged in.
· Logged out - Connection is inactive and logged out.
· Reconnecting - Currently trying to re-establish the connection.
· Free - Target is discovered, but not logged in.
· No target - Target for the initiator has been removed.
The path connection state is displayed in the Virtual Disk Details page>Paths tab under the State column.
The behavior of redundant mirror and back-end
paths differ between iSCSI and Fibre Channel. Redundant iSCSI paths operate
in Active/Active mode. Redundant
Fibre Channel paths controlled by DataCore device drivers
will operate in failover (Active/Standby)
mode, where one path is Active
per virtual disk and all other paths are in Standby.
Possible path states:
o Active - The path is being used for I/O.
o Standby - The path will be inactive until needed for failover.
o Not present – There is a connection between the ports but the mirror link is not there yet. This could be a transitional state while rescans are being performed.
o Connected - The port to the host is connected.
o Not connected - For mirror paths, the mirror ports are not connected and the mirror link will not be established until they are connected. For front-end paths, The port to the host is not connected.
o Path down - One or more paths are not connected to the host.
The host port state is displayed under the icon in the Host Port Details page.
Possible port states:
· Connected - The port is able to communicate/transfer data.
· Not connected - The port is unable to communicate/transfer data until it is connected.
· Not Present - The port is not detected.
· Path down - One or more paths are not connected to the host.
Possible port states:
· Connected - The port is able to communicate/transfer data.
· Not connected - The port is unable to communicate/transfer data until it is connected.
· Path down - One or more paths are not connected to the host.
