Releasing Lock on Physical Disks

Physical disks and DataCore disks are displayed in DataCore Servers panel with a lock icon if:

  • The disks are new and never initialized.
  • The disks are pass-through disks used to migrate existing data.

When a disk is locked, it cannot be managed by DataCore SANsymphony software or used by the Windows operating system.

To allow use of the locked disk, do one of the following:

  • Add the physical disk to a pool. (See Creating Disk Pools.)
  • Create a virtual disk using the locked disk as a pass-through. (See Pass-through Disks.)
  • Release the disk to the operating system.

To release the lock by adding the disk to a pool or releasing it to the OS:

  • In DataCore Servers panel, right-click the locked disk and select either Add to pool or Release to OS.
  • When a locked physical disk is added to a pool, the disk will be moved from the DataCore Servers panel>Physical Disks and displayed under the appropriate pool.
  • When a locked physical disk is released to the operating system or used as a pass-through, the disk will remain listed in the DataCore Servers panel>Physical Disks or DataCore Servers panel>DataCore disks.
