License Expirations
When a license expires, information is still visible in the SANsymphony management console and hosts can still access data through iSCSI and fibre channel front end ports, but all actions are prohibited. Actions that are prevented upon license expiration:
- Create snapshot
- Create snapshot group
- Enable CDP
- Create rollback
- Add mirror
- Create logical disk
- Bind logical disk
- Create virtual disk
- Create virtual disk from template
- Create a virtual disk based off an existing virtual disk
- Quick serve
- Move virtual disk
When a specific capacity expires, only the storage capacity license is enforced, which pertains to creating pools and adding disks to pools. Details for specific license types are explained in the sections that follow.
To purchase a perpetual or term license, additional storage capacity, or node support, or licensed software features or products, contact DataCore Software or your DataCore Solution Provider.
Trial Mode
If running SANsymphony in 30-day trial mode, after 30 days all configuration operations will be prohibited unless a license is purchased and those product keys are activated. The number of days until trial mode expires is displayed at the top of the SANsymphony Management Console. The reminder will be displayed when there is at least one server in the group that is reaching the expiration date for trial mode. If you are using DataCore Web Console, there is no reminder; once the trial expires, you will not be able to use DataCore Web Console.
Evaluation Licenses
If running the software under an evaluation license with an expiration date, the evaluation start date begins on the day the license is shipped. After the number of days has expired, all configuration operations will be prohibited unless a license is purchased. If the evaluation license has expired before a permanent license has been activated, any keys with expiration dates must be removed before activating permanent product keys. Contact DataCore Technical Support for assistance in removing license keys.
Term Licenses
Term licenses are time-limited licenses, in that they are valid for a specific time period such as three years. Once the license term expires and there are no remaining active licenses to cover the capacity under management, all configuration operations will be prohibited unless a new license is purchased and those product keys are activated. For SANsymphony, when at least one server in the group has a license that will expire, the number of days until term license expiration is displayed at the top of the SANsymphony Management Console. For the DataCore Web Console, when at least one server in the group has a license that will expire in 90 days or less, or has already expired, the number of days until expiration is shown at the top of the console.
