Prerequisites

Hyper-V Deployment

The DataCore Installation Manager for Hyper-V relies on the functioning name resolution for both the Hyper-V hosts and the virtual machines which will be created. Ensure that the "DNS" or the "HOSTS" file on the deployment machine is updated before starting the deployment, so that Hyper-V host resolves to the same IP with the hostname and the domain name i.e., NETBIOS and fully qualified domain name (FQDN).

Windows Environment with a Hyper-V Server

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2019
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2022

Hyper-V Hosts (Two or More)

  • Hyper-V must be enabled on the hosts.
  • If the WIK option is disabled, and the host is in "Pending reboot" status, the DataCore Installation Manager for Hyper-V will stop the installation.
  • The hosts may or may not be joined to a Windows cluster. DataCore Installation Manager for Hyper-V does not automate the creation of clusters.
  • The rules listed in Firewall Settings should be enabled on the hosts, or the firewall should be disabled for the domain and private networks.
  • The "Deploy Windows Integration Kit" option is selected by default and will cause the hosts to be rebooted during the deployment.

The DataCore Installation Manager for Hyper-V cannot be run from any of the hosts or an error will occur. Either deselect the Windows Integration Kit option or if installation is needed, run this from a different machine that is not a host but has access to the hosts.

  • Each host should have one or more unpartitioned physical disks. This prerequisite is only required if the option “Automatically create pool” is selected in the DataCore Installation Manager for Hyper-V. During the initial SANsymphony deployment, SANsymphony will be available in trial mode. During this time, the total disk capacity should not exceed 1 PB.
  • 100GB free disk space on each Hyper-V server to install DataCore Server software on the virtual machine.
  • Each host should have two public NICs, one for the DataCore Installation Manager for Hyper-V to connect to the hosts and one for the VM's management network.

DataCore Server Virtual Machine

  • DataCore Installation Manager for Hyper-V must be able to connect to all of the Hyper-V hosts.
